Vaquero Pops

Pops sneaked into town for a visit on the flimsy excuse of "business trip" and since he just had a birthday, we decided to go all-out Texas on him.

We found a pair of vintage spurs to throw him off the real present of a gift card to The Cowboy Store*. For all your shiny, new, I'll never go near a actual cow fashions. I mean, perhaps real cowboys shop here, but I always imagine those guys just ordering stuff out of gun catalogs or picking it up at the Piggly Wiggly in town, not the giant warehouse off I-35 where the sales girls are wearing shirts with both sequins AND tassels.

However, we are in Austin, the capital of the great land of Texas, so it must be legit. We fed him barbecue (he paid), threatened to take him skeet shootin', helped him pick out a powerful good black hat with matching belt and let him wrassel our little doe-gies.

Evan's Uncle Russ and Aunt Andi live in the Woodlands of Houston so the two boys took the babies to visit for a night and left Mommy ALONE for a whole day and night, because I had to work.

Mommy's day out!?? More about that later, but let's just say I haven't slept in that late since I had teen depression in the 90s. Thanks for the vacation weekend, Pops. We love ya a whole durn heap.

p.s. the lovely dress ruby is wearing is a vintage one that belonged to Evan's mother and all the little grandbaby gals are bribed into this pleasant photo tradition, to the delight of every Mommy.
