Hall and Oates? You look so...youthful

This resemblance will never cease to make me squeal with laughter like a Japanese schoolgirl.

Mazzy's Holiday

Our sweet friend Mazzy was born on October 31st, (and Elise!) and being a holiday baby myself (Christmas) I know how it feels to have your one day of the year overshadowed by holiday nonsense.

Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to declare the last day of October re-appropriated to be the national celebration of Mazzy and Elise's birth! There shall be feasting, dancing, music, sweetmeats, presents, and fantasy. Let this new holiday celebrate life and family and the glory it is to be a girl. WE ARE TO PARTY.

Mazzy's party was actually held on the 30th this year, and we drove out to Manchaca, Tx dressed as a monkey, a pachyderm, Mami-Poppins, and a umm....monkey wrangler.

It is so great to still know people that I've known since I was fifteen, though I only see them about once a year. They know me better than most of my "closer" friends, just because they've seen so many different manifestations of myself. Waif hippie Shayla, Gypsy carnie Shayla, Globe trotter Shayla, Waitress Shayla, Mountain girl Shayla, Set dresser Shayla, Bartender Shayla, Artist Shayla, Wife Shayla, Mommy Shayla.

(Those last two are my favorite)

It is even greater to watch our offspring interacting joyfully and wondering "Will they stay friends their whole life like we have?? Will they smoke cappuccino flavored pipe tobacco in the woods while sharing a chocolate orange and playing Neil Young guitar songs and thinking deep teen thoughts? Will they be roommates, bandmates, bestmates?"

One could waste a jolly good week thinking pleasant thoughts like those, best shake it off and just watch.

"Tacks, the Boy Disaster" BAND OF THE YEAR

Having a blog is awesome because you can get away with grandiose titles like this one. It will be true on a more public scale someday, or my name ain't "Mommmmyyyy".

This band is Evan's baby. He writes the songs and lyrics, arranges quite a few of the parts, sings all the lead vocals, plays piano, keyboards, synthesizer, a smattering of guitar and drums and records and mixes everything himself. The lost family evenings together in sacrifice for their new album is multitudinous but it is tantalizingly close to blessed completion. We have adopted two new members since the record was started, displacing one to anarchy and another to Harvard (hopefully he'll be back). Though the fans are wondering if Tacks is still kicking I know everyone is in for a treat when I hear the beautiful sounds filtering through the studio doors into my kitchen.

Meet Kyle. Drums, coffee, fish, garden vegetables and great hair.

Alán. Bass, funk, bicycle, synth, melodica, backing vocals and fashion sense.

Jake. Guitar, guitar faces, impeccably clean house, backing vocals, irresistible to coeds.

I love these guys. Talent abounds and much laughing, in between making beautiful songs of course. They are the only dudes I will consent to let my husband have a "relationship" with, because being in a band is very like being in a marriage I think. When Evan plays with other bands I have a vague and ridiculous feeling that he is being unfaithful to us, me and the boys.

I have embedded a live video of one of the new songs which is the only sneak peek I'm allowed to give you, hope you enjoy and stay tuned for more!

Kiss my Koffee

Sometimes, you're just really hard up for a baby sitter.

Okay, it's just Jeff, dressed as Gene Simmons, pretending to be me. Back in the baby Ruby days when we still had enough spare time to execute cockamamie photo schemes like this one.

I feel like I used to be funnier, weirder, but now I'm just tired all the time. Did all my life force go into my children? Are they using it to destroy my house? No. But sometimes it feels that way. Boundless energy encapsulated in cute, swaddled in diapers*, wrapped in a tortilla, popped into my mouth. Delicious naughty birds.

Anyway, "Unkie" Jeff Klein heads one of Evan's bands My Jerusalem that I've mentioned before and has a new blog and some free microphone and album giveaway. Thought I'd kill two birds with one stone and post these awesome old pictures and give you the link to win win win. Make sure you check out their new video featuring my mister playing every instrument.
Happy Tuesday!

*Ruby is finally potty trained!!!
