Brooke Storms, Artist

This is my comely and terribly talented sister, Brooke Storms. I could gush for pages about her skills and humor and nurturing capacity but I think I will just let her art speak for itself. It does pain me that beauty of this magnitude falls wasted on the eyes of apathetic, hemp loving, jam band dancing mountain yokels.
(the rest of my family excluded of course)

Tangeline and Goldilou

Today we had a scorching wagon ride around the neighborhood and dragged our damp selves back home for some sweet sweet crafternoon action.

Ruby spotted some finger puppets in one of my vintage craft books and begged me to make them and I couldn't refuse. Ours look quite a bit fancier than the book, what with their luxurious hair and shiny embellishments, but I couldn't help myself. No sewing required, just hot glue, bits of felt and ribbon, and cardboard tubes cut with scissors. We dubbed them Tangeline and Goldilou, but apparently while playing in the yard Goldilou must've charmed some handsome royalty because when she came in Ruby had changed her name to Princess Flower Dumpling.

p.s. the photo of me was taken by miss Ruby herself

Prothro Wedd'n: Shayla's Eyes

We were privileged to attend the wedding of the year last weekend. Vince and Dara made it legal out at the mystifying and beautiful Trois Estates near Enchanted Rock and just went ahead and made a full out festival of it. (I actually filmed a movie out here five years ago, Poe's "Cask of Amontillado". It was fun to return and to wear a dress instead of a walkie talkie)

We were put up in a hotel (Jesse's first) with a beautiful pool and hot waffles for breakfast, and we stayed the whole weekend, feasting, swimming, dancing and rejoicing with our friends.

The estate where the ceremony was held is actually an entire adobe village outside of Fredericksburg, Texas complete with lodging for guests, on site restaurant, underground swimming grotto, tiny chapel, epic domed hall with hundreds of stuffed animal heads and the world's largest cap gun museum.

There were rock bands, delicious foods, a cake shaped like a cat, flowing drinks, beautiful girls in beautiful gowns, laughter, tears, and animatronic camels. People will be talking about this one for years, and ever since our 3am foray to the underground swimming cave we can't stop saying "Grottobottom."

Vince and Dara, may your love blossom like a cactus flower, you crazy awesome kids.

(for a real slice of the party and more of us, check Felicia's photos, amazing stuff)

Bouncy Picnic

As it turns out, a trampoline has many delightful uses: kitty basking area, comfy star gazing surface, palaver meeting place, sibling death match stage, and....bouncy picnic table.

Grambie and Pops

I finally managed to put up the large pile of photos from when Grambie and Pops graced us with their ever smiling and benevolent selves. We ate in actual restaurants, (you parents know this is a dangerous and special event) shopped for vintage childrens books, swarmed on Zilker Park and the botanical gardens, rode the train and had an all-around jolly holiday.
